More New Laws take effect

More new laws went into effect Tuesday for Louisiana residents.

The new DWI law, Act 288, has gotten lots of attention. It centers on suspected drunk drivers refusing to take breathalyzer tests. A suspect who refuses to take the test loses his driver's license for one year.

Act 210 focuses on protecting children against sexual predators.

A host of other new laws went into effect earlier this year.

One of those punishes parents for their child's absence from school.

Stiffer penalties are now in place to fight animal cruelty in the state.

Another law that has gained lots of attention is related to seat belts.

The new law states passengers in the front and back seats must buckle up.
