Louisiana Workforce Commission Announces New Call Center Schedule

The Louisiana Workforce Commission announced that applications for new unemployment insurance claims will be accepted from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. every day except Sundays.

In addition, the Commission announced that it will now use a single toll-free line for new claims: 1-800-957-1605.

The Commission has been operating its call centers for 16 hours a day, seven days a week since Hurricane Gustav struck, but as the rate of new claims returns closer to normal, some of the extra capacity can be scaled back.

Benefits will begin in early October for people who have filed initial claims since the storms and who are determined to be eligible. Payments may be delayed in cases when employers have issues with the claims. In those cases, the Commission will contact the claims filers directly.
