Benefit Forfeiture Bill gets OK from Retirement Committee

House Bill 48 by Representative Hunter Greene won unanimous approval with amendments by the House Committee on Retirement.

The bill proposes a constitutional amendment which would authorize the legislature to provide for the forfeiture of public retirement benefits for any public official or employee convicted of a felony related to his office.

The approved committee amendments changed the wording from public official or employee to any member of a Louisiana public retirement system, plan or fund who is convicted of a felony associated with the member’s public service.

I DISAGREE WITH HOUSE BILL 48 & I HOPE IT DOES NOT PASS!

IF AN INDIVIDUAL CONTRIBUTES INTO THE SYSTEM HE/SHE SHOULD RECEIVE THEIR PENSION NO MATTER WHAT!

WHY NOT REWARD PEOPLE INSTEAD OF THREATENING THEM WITH MORE PUNISHMENT!
