DROP and Retirement Eligibility Changes for Employees Covered Under the Provisions of Act 75

Under the provisions of Act 75 of 2005, eligibility for retirement or DROP participation was 10 or more years of service credit at age 60. Effective January 1, 2011, the provisions of Act 992 of 2010 changed this eligibility.

Eligibility for retirement or DROP participation for these employees is now five or more years of service credit at age 60. This means that some employees may have become immediately eligible for DROP participation on January 1, 2011.

Example: If a member had six years of service credit and was age 60 on January 1, 2011, their DROP window opened on January 1, 2011. They must begin DROP within 60 days of that date to participate for the full 36 months.
