A state lawmaker complains that state agencies might give their workers pay raises next year.
Rep. John Schroder, a Republican from Covington, says government employees shouldn't get salary boosts while the state is cutting services and eliminating programs.
State budget director Ray Stockstill says the only way state agencies can be prohibited from giving out the raises is if civil service officials issue a rule stopping them.

They are not being singled out. This would be no different that people working in the private sector. in the private sector, if a business has to cut services or other costs, the employees are generallnot given a merit raise or any othe raise. It's common sense, if there is no profit during difficult times, everyone cuts back.
