Enhanced Benefits Bill for Probation and Parole Officers Gains Final Approval – by Robyn Ekings

The Louisiana House on Wednesday (June 17th) gave final approval to a bill that would create a fund for enhanced benefits for adult probation and parole officers.

The measure authorizes a $65 fee to be collected by the Department of Public Safety and Corrections and creates a special fund into which the monies collected will be provided only if the legislature provides for matching funds for the benefit enhancements by June 30, 2015.

The Louisiana State Employees’ Retirement Systems’ (LASERS) Board of Trustees did not oppose the fund, but maintains a position of opposition will be taken if the fund is used to pay special interest retroactive enhanced benefits
