New Trustee Appointed to the LASERS Board of Trustees

Susan Johnson Pappan has been appointed to serve on the governing board of the Louisiana State Employees’ Retirement System (LASERS). Pappan’s appointment to the LASERS Board of Trustees was announced during the May board meeting, held on Friday, May 22, 2009. She replaces Judge Trudy M. White, who resigned as Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees on May 1, 2009.

In June of 2006, Pappan joined Louisiana’s Disaster Recovery Unit. In June of 2007, she was named financial Manager. The Recovery Unit manages all aspects of accounting for approximately $14 billion in federal funds appropriated for state recovery efforts following Hurricanes Katrina/Rita and Gustav/Ike. From 1994 to 2006, Pappan worked as a portfolio manager for the state of Louisiana. She served as a pension manager for Continental Airlines in Houston, Texas and was a comptroller with the advertising firm of Taylor Brown and Barnhill, Inc. in Houston. Her career began in 1982 with a position as a senior staff accountant with the CPA firm of Fox and Co.

Pappan received her Bachelor’s of Science Degree from the University of Houston and is a Certified Public Accountant. “I am thrilled at my appointment to the LASERS Board of Trustees and look forward to the continued success LASERS has provided for its active members, retirees and agencies they support,” said Pappan.

The LASERS Board of Trustees is the management board for the Louisiana State Employees’ Retirement System. It is composed of twelve members. Nine trustees are elected by active and retired members of LASERS. Three trustees serve as ex officio members: the Louisiana State Treasurer; the Chair of the Louisiana Senate Committee on Retirement; and the Chair of the Louisiana House of Representatives Committee on Retirement.
