Indiana Retirement Systems plan merger bill dies in conference

Legislation to merge the $11.4 billion Indiana Public Employees’ Retirement Fund and $6.8 billion Indiana State Teachers’ Retirement Fund, failed with state legislative conferees unable to reach a deal on a joint bill.

The state House and Senate had passed separate merger bills.

PERF spokesman Jeffrey D. Hutson said in a statement: “It is our understanding that this proposed legislation may be a topic for consideration by the Pension Management Oversight Commission this summer.”
