House Approves Resolution to change state employee layoff procedures

Legislation that urges state civil service officials to look at factors other than seniority when employee layoffs are required has been approved by the Louisiana House of Representatives.

The measure is House Concurrent Resolution 6 by Rep. Mike Danahay, D-Sulphur.

Resolutions reflect the sentiment of the House but do not have the effect of law. The Civil Service Commission will discuss changes to the layoff procedures at its June 3 commission meeting.

The measure asks that civil service officials consider an employee’s knowledge, performance and abilities when deciding who keeps their jobs.
