Louisiana State Income Tax Deadline Approaching

Louisiana residents have until midnight Thursday to file their state income tax returns.

A six-month extension may be granted upon request to the Louisiana Revenue Department but must be made before the state tax filing due date Thursday. People can request an extension by going to www.rev.state.la.us.

Byron Henderson, press secretary for the Revenue Department, said all people need to do is bring all their pertinent tax documents to the local office.

"We have trained volunteers called volunteer income tax assistants who do the taxes. People should make sure they bring all their information."

Taxpayers also can file taxes online by themselves for free.

“Not having the proper documentation can cause problems at a later date. People want to have the names, addresses and Social Security numbers for everyone listed on their return." he said.

Refunds usually are sent within two weeks of filing.
