LASERS Trustee Cynthia Bridges to remain Revenue Secretary

Revenue Secretary Cynthia Bridges has been reappointed as Secretary of the Department of Revenue by Governor-elect Bobby Jindal. A Certified Public Accountant, Secretary Bridges has been an employee of the department for more than 20 years.

At the revenue department, Bridges, 50, will continue to lead the agency, making her a veteran of three administrations.

The position is not merely the state’s chief tax collector. The secretary also is responsible for overseeing charitable gaming as well as alcohol and tobacco regulation.

Former Gov. Mike Foster hired Bridges to run the revenue department. Gov. Kathleen Blanco kept her.

She is a long time revenue department employee, having served as director of excise tax division in 1998 before becoming deputy secretary of the agency collects taxes for the state.
